State institutional and financial regulations that affect productivity should be changed according to the need of the hour.- Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that a reliable path can be created for the future generation by increasing productivity.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the "National Productivity Awards 2020" held at Temple Trees on 15.12.2022. The award ceremony organized by the National Productivity Secretariat, was held this year in recognition of the most effective and efficient institutions in various sectors such as Public, production, schools, piriven etc.

While addressing the gathering the Prime Minister mentioned that productivity being the next step in the development of a country, it is a challenge for us. It is based on productivity that a reliable path can be created for future generations. Productivity of our country should be increased. It is important to recognize the priorities in overcoming that challenge.
“We need to let the creativity of the youth blossoms. It is a great honour that you pay for them to recognize the productivity of people who are trying to move the society and the country to a new era, away from the traditional angle”.

Ronnie de Mel is one of the greatest finance ministers of our country. That day, he said that even though money is allocated for buildings in every budget, the buildings are only used for six hours. After that, the buildings are closed until the next morning. Whereas in other countries, the buildings are used for additional research in the process of gathering additional knowledge.

We are in a time to review government institutional and financial regulations that affect productivity. Otherwise, it will be a waste of time. In the process of changing a country from the bottom to the top should include every sector. Funds are allocated from the Treasury to institutions. That is the tax collected from the public. But in vain these institutions do not add anything to the national wealth. There are many government corporation departments that are not that effective said the Prime Minister.

Some changes have to be made in various fields in the near future. You are the one who paves the way for us to reach new achievements based on those changes. Without being able to control public expenditure, a large amount of wealth is being spent in our country without productivity.

Prime Minister further highlighted that Cabinet of Ministers discussed to give priority to vehicles running on solar power or electricity. Trains and three-wheelers run on electric power in the neighboring country. Instead of getting into debt for wasteful expenses, we should also transform ourselves into such technology.

“We can use electric or solar powered vehicles instead of getting loans to buy fuel. Twelve hours out of the twenty-four hours of the day, we can use the solar power that we have been blessed with. I ardently request especially the young generation of the country to shoulder this change”

Labor and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, Secretary to the Prime Minister Mr. Anura Dissanayake, Secretary of the Labour Ministry Mr. R.P. A Wimalaweera including government officials and representatives participated at the occasion.
