Urgent measures to be taken to increase powers of local government bodies in accordance with the Local Government Act.- -Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says that immediate steps will be taken to increase the powers devolved to local government bodies in accordance with the Local Government Act.

The Prime Minister stated this when the new public shopping complex in Wadduwa was handed over to the people.

The government always takes decisions to act in a way that strengthens the business community and it is the closest institution to solve problems faced by the people. The government also took actions to upgrade the Kalutara local council up to the level of municipal with the intention of providing more effective service to the people.

As a government, financial problems and economic crises were expected but the spread of the covid disease around the world was a reason for intensifying the crisis. The Prime Minister also mentioned that the government had to spend a vast sum of money to save the people and the government is working to alleviate the situation.

This shopping complex has two floors and has 30 spacious rooms. The amount spent in the building is Rs 95 million. Puranaguma programme, provincial council and local council have provided funds for this.

Western Province Governor Roshan Gunathilake, State Minister Piyal Nishantha, Rohitha Abeygunawardena MP, Kalutara District Secretary Prasanna Janaka Kumara Ginige, Hemantha Fernando, Chairman of Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha and many other members of Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha took part in the occasion.
