The government’s endeavor is to make self-sufficient villages all over the country making use of every single drop of water falling from the sky, without being wasted. - Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that it is our responsibility to adhere to the concept, "making use of every single drop of water falling from the sky without letting flow to the sea not being used.” He stated this taking part at the distribution of 35 drinking water bowsers at a cost of 490 million Rupees to the local governments in 7 provinces, 15 districts, namely North, East, North Central, North West, Central, Uva and South at Sri Lanka Administrative Institute, Colombo recenytly.
These bowsers were distributed to selected Pradeshiya Sabha in the districts of Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara. He distributed water bowsers to the selected Pradeshiya Sabha of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Kandy, Matale, Badulla, Monaragala and Hambantota districts as well.
The Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who is also the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government further commented that, "Our civilization is built on water. Therefore, we have a challenge to prioritize food production and agriculture and implement the program to create self-sufficient villages island-wide. This program will provide water tankers for local governments in remote areas where it is difficult to get drinking water. These water bowsers will also be useful to carry drinking water to the respective local government areas in emergency situations and natural disasters. The bowsers equipped with modern technology are a resource worth more than 500 million Rupees. I request all local government representatives to maintain and protect those resources to serve the people. I am aware of the water problem in the northern and eastern provinces. I think that the efforts made today have helped to provide solutions to the water problem of the people in those areas.”

Ministers, Members of Parliament, Prime Minister’s Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Secretary, other officials and Chairpersons of Pradeshiya Sabhas attended the event.
