The Commissioning Parade of the 38th and 64th recruitment of cadet officers of Sri Lanka Navy who passed out from Kotalawala Defense University was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on January 28 at the Trincomalee Naval camp.

Eastern Province Governor Senthil Thondaman, Member of Parliament Yadamini Gunawardena, Chief of Defense Staff General Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and senior officials joined the event.

Message of Condolences

The sudden demise of Mr. Sanath Nishantha, Member of Parliament for Puttalam District, State Minister for Water Supply, who was an active public representative of our government, will be a great loss.

Having engaged in a practical political role for about three decades, his mission leaves an irrecoverable gap in the progressive camp he represented.

Having worked as a Minister of the North-Western Province in the Local Government, he entered the Parliament and handled the responsibility of the State Minister of a very responsible ministry with full understanding in that scope.

Sri Lankan trade & cultural exhibition in China

An exhibition of Sri Lanka trade, investment opportunities and culture will be held in Baoji City in Xian Province in China in March 2024. More than 40 Sri Lankan stalls will be set up to display Sri Lankan products with the participation of more than 100 entrepreneurs and traders.

A team of Chinese and Sri Lankan organizers of this exhibition called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees on January 23 to brief him on the proposed Sri Lankan exposition in Xinjiang. They said the exhibition will promote Sri Lankan trade, investment and tourism sectors too.

The Chinese entrepreneur team included Mr Liang Yong, Mr. Guo Fan, Mr. Li Xiangyang, Mr.Li Fei and Mr. Zhao Xiquan.

Fiftieth commemoration of Ceylon Socialist Labor Union was held at Kotte Town Hall on 19.01.2024 under the patronage of its President, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena .

At this conference, ten proposals were presented and adapted. They include the call for reducing of increased water and electricity bills, exempting the money received at the time of retirement from taxes , providing a salary suitable for the economy to the estate workers , and confirming the rights of women under the labor law.

A meeting between the Maldives Speaker and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

A meeting between the Speaker of the Maldives Parliament Hon. Mohamed Aslam and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena took place on 18.01.2024 at Temple Trees.

The Prime Minister and the speaker recalled the relationships and diplomatic relationships secured between the two countries since time immemorial which have never been broken.

The speaker expressed his views on the intellectual contribution of Sri Lankans to the Maldives education sector. Many Sri Lankan teachers are working in pre-schools and schools in the Maldives.

The Prime Minister said that accurate statistics are required to strengthen the economy and further he stated that Aswasuma benefit is for the betterment of low income people. At the same time he convinced that it is unfortunate to import eggs from abroad while we are having a blessed earth. Nattaranpotha Kala Puraya, Kandy for Prime Minister’s observation 17.01.2024

The Naththarampotha kala Puraya of Kandy is an artistic haven full of new creations by traditional artisans in a variety of traditional handicrafts made of brass, laaksa, silver, dumbara patterns etc. Currently the Kala Puraya also trains new artisans.

The Naththarampotha Kala Puraya on the banks of Mahaweli River in Dumbara Valley can be described as a place of revival of local industries that started with the people’s revolution in 1956.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena met the residents of Mandaram Nuwara today (2024.01.15) without prior notice.

They exchanged many views with the Prime Minister on matters affecting the area, infrastructure and tourism.

The Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena mentioned that Public service is the backbone of a country during the administrative Grama Niladhari appointment ceremony held at Temple Trees today (2024.01.12).

A special Aswesuma unit for each divisional secretariat.

A special discussion was held today (2024.01.08) at Temple Trees regarding the implementation and recovery of Aswasuma Welfare Benefit Scheme.

It was decided to resolve all appeals for the year 2023 by January 31st 2024, to call for new appeals for the second round by the first week of February 2024, to create a special appeals unit for each divisional secretariat and to appoint an officer for it at the village level.
