Kohuwala flyover was vested in the public ...

The flyover constructed at the Kohuwala junction above the Horana-Colombo main road was vested in the public today (17.07.2024) by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena as a solution to the heavy traffic congestion at the Kohuwala junction.

The Ministry of Transport and Highways, under the supervision of the Road Development Authority built this flyover by the Hungarian Betonepitto Company, and Access Engineering Company acted as its Sri Lankan representative. The construction was started on 16 August 2021, and it is 254 meters long and 9.4 meters wide. It cost 3599 million rupees.

UNESCO has a major role to look after millions of children and young people that are out of schools and without opportunities – Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena lamented that violent attacks have been extended on schools and universities and there are even more victims of war, natural disasters and epidemics. “As a result especially millions of children and young people are out of schools and without opportunities,” he said at the UNESCO 75th anniversary held at the BMICH on July 16.

“UNESCO was founded in the wake of a world war. Millions had perished, millions had been forced to flee from death and despair, millions had lost their homes and left everything behind in search of a better future,” he said adding that UNESCO has a major in looking after the victimized children.

Polycrome Award Ceromony for Electricians

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena was the chief guest today ( 16.07.2024) at the Polycrome Award Ceremony for NVQ qualified electricians at the BMICH. Polycrome Electrician Institute, which falls under Polycrome Holdings Private Ltd, was the sponsor and the training facility for Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka organized programme for electricians 2023-2024, which awarded NVQ Level 3 qualification, that support them to find employment in their field. More than 1200 electricians recived certificates at the ceromony.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena requested from the newly appointed government officials to render an effective service to the country.

Development projects in Kilinochchi will be implemented speedily – Prime Minister

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said the government has allocation additional development funds for speedy implementation of projects. Speaking at the opening of the Business Service Centre in Kilinochchi on July 12, he urged the district leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to quickly complete the projects undertaken in the district, under the guidance of the Northern Governor.

Chinese scientists study CKDu

Chinese scientists have conducted a study on Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu) in Sri Lanka in collaboration with a team of local scientists. The team of scientists who conducted the study called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees on Wednesday (July 10) and said the final report of the study will be submitted shortly.

Chinese government, in addition to assist the research, extended a grant for a water purification project in CKDu affected districts in Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister thanked China for the grant extended for water purification and research on water-borne diseases in Sri Lanka, which was initiated when he was the Minister of Water Supply.
