A report is called from the Minister of Fisheries regarding the prevention of killing of fish using explosives..

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena advised the Minister of Fisheries to submit a report to him as soon as possible to prevent the killing of fish using explosives. He made this reference in a discussion held at the Prime Minister’s Office with the participation of Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda.

Member of Parliament Mr. Yadamini Gunawardena also highlighted the damage caused to dolphins and blue whales by fishing using explosives in the sea around Kalpitiya and Puttalam. Due to the use of explosives, the marine ecosystem is severely damaged and it also affects the development of the fishing industry.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena states that the direct contribution of governors and provincial council officers and former public representatives is essential for the success of the rural economic revival and food security programme.

Netherlands to provide innovative agro knowhow to Grow Food Program

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena thanks the Netherlands for the assistance provided to infrastructure development and agriculture and various other sectors and urged for technical knowhow and more investments in agriculture, information technology, renewable energy, transport and tourism.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says that the village temple and other religious institutions must join the national programme of the government to make the country self-sufficient in terms of food.

Prime Minister stresses importance of enhancing professionalism in public and private sectors for economic revival

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stressed the importance of enhancing professionalism in public and private sectors for economic revival and praised the Institute of Supply and Material Management (ISMM) for its contribution to the economy by imparting required professional expertise to youth.
Addressing the International Seminar held in Colombo today (24) to mark the 50th Anniversary of ISMM, he urged the participants to explore ways and means of improving supply chain to smoothen supply of requirements for growth of production.

A paddy field in Dangkotu harvested using organic fertilizers was observed by the Prime Minister..

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena inspected a twenty-acre paddy field in Dankotuwa Atiyawala where the local rice variety of Maa Wee is harvested using organic fertilizers.
Mr. W.S. Y. Dharmasena the owner of the paddy field exchanged his views with the Prime Minister and the cultivated “Hangimutthan” variety of Maa Wee was brought to the attention of him. The farmer also pointed out that this type of paddy is propagated by offshoots from time to time, so it is possible to harvest several times from a single cultivation. The specialty of this variety is a yield of 70% can be obtained from in one season.

Prime Minister reiterates government’s commitment to ensure food security

Prime Minister, Hon.
