විභාගය සමත් අසමත් බව මත අපි අධ්‍යාපනය මැනීමට පුරුදු වී ඇති බවත් , ඒ ක්‍රමය වෙනස් කිරීමට මොඩියුල ක්‍රමය හඳුන්වා දී ඇති බවත් , ඒ ක්‍රමය තුළින් දරුවන්ට ගුණාත්මක අධ්‍යාපනයක් ලබා දීම තම රජයේ අරමුණ බවත්, අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරිය පැවසුවාය.

2026 වර්ෂයේ සිට ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට නියමිත නව අධ්‍යාපන ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ පිළිබඳ ජුලි 23 දින බත්තරමුල්ල ඉසුරුපාය, අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍යංශයේ දී පැවැති මාධ්‍යවේදීන් දැනුවත් කිරීමේ සාකච්ඡාවට සහභාගීවෙමින් අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරිය මේ බව පැවසුවාය.

2026 වර්ෂයේ සිට ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට නියමිත නව අධ්‍යාපන ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ පිළිබඳව සියලු මාධ්‍ය ආයතනවල මාධ්‍යවේදීන් දැනුවත් කිරීම අධ්‍යාපන උසස් අධ්‍යාපන හා වෘත්තීය අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍යංශ ලේකම් නාලක කලුවැව මහතා සහ ජාතික අධ්‍යාපන ආයතනයේ නියෝජ්‍ය අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල්, ආචාර්ය අශෝක ද සිල්වා මහතා විසින් සිදු කරන ලදී.

එහිදී, මාධ්‍යවේදීන් නැගූ ප්‍රශ්නවලට පිළිතුරු දුන් අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරිය,

" අපි පුරුදු වෙලා තියෙන්නේ ගුරුවරු දෙමව්පියෝ වගේම ළමයිනුත් විභාගෙකට සූදානම් වෙන අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රමයකටයි. නමුත් මේ මොඩියුල ක්‍රමයේදී විවිධ ක්‍රියාකාරකම් ඔස්සේ ළමයි ඉගෙන ගැනීමට යොමුවන අතරෙම, ඇගැයීමටත් ලක්වෙනවා.

නව විෂය නිර්දේශය අනුව අ.පො.ස සාමාන්‍ය පෙළ විභාගය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට නියමිත 2029 වර්ෂයේ දීය. 2026 සිට මෙය අපි ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන්නේ 1 ශ්‍රේණිය සහ 6 වෙනි ශ්‍රේණියට පමණයි. අපිට මේ ක්‍රමය නිරීක්‍ෂණය කරන්න අවුරුදු 03ක් තියෙනවා. එහිදී මුහුණ දෙන්න වෙන තත්ත්වයන් සහ අවශ්‍යතා එක්ක අපිට පුළුවන් මේ ක්‍රමයේ අවශ්‍ය වෙනස්කම් කරන්න. අපි කොහෙදිවත් කියලා නෑ මේ ඉදිරිපත් කරන ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ අවසානාත්මකයි කියලා. අවස්ථානුකූලව එය වෙනස් කරන්න අපි බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා. ඒ වගේම ඔබටත් ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඔබගේ අදහස් සහ යෝජනා ඉදිරිපත් කරන්න පුළුවන්.

පන්ති කාමරය තුළ ළමයින් 25 - 30 දක්වා අඩු කරන්න අවශ්‍යයි. දැනට පන්ති කාමරයක ළමයි 40 ඉක්මවලා ඉන්න පන්ති කාමරත් තියෙනවා. එහෙම වෙලා තියෙන්නේ නියමිත සිසුන් ගණනට වඩා සිසුන් ප්‍රමාණයක් පාසලට ඇතුළත් කරගන්න කියන අධ්‍යාපන ඇමති සහ ලේකම්ගේ නිර්දේශ මත සිදුවන ඇතුළත් කිරීම් නිසා. ඒ ක්‍රමය අපේ රජය යටතේ සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම නවත්තලා තියෙනවා. ඒ නිසා ඉදිරියේදී පාසල්වලට ඇතුළත් වෙන්නේ ඒ අදාළ නියමිත සිසුන් ප්‍රමාණය පමණයි.

ඒ වගේම පහේ ශිෂ්‍යත්වය අහෝසි කරන්න අපි තාම තීරණයක් අරගෙන නැහැ. එහෙම කරන්න නම් පාසල් අතර තියෙන විෂමතාවය නැති කරන්න ඕනේ. ඒක අපිට එකපාරටම කරන්න පුළුවන් දෙයක් නෙවෙයි. ශිෂ්‍යත්ව විභාගය නිසා දරුවන්ට ඇති වී තිබෙන, පීඩාකාරී අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රමයේ බර අඩු කරන්න තමයි අපි මේ ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ වලදි බලාපොරොත්තු වෙන්නේ.

පූර්ව ළමා විය සංවර්ධන මධ්‍යස්ථාන පවත්වාගෙන යාම සහ එම ගුරුවරුන් පුහුණු කිරීම පිළිබඳ පූර්ණ නිරීක්ෂණය අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍යංශය හරහා සිදු කිරීමටත් මෙම ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ යටතේ අපි යෝජනා කරලා තියෙනවා. " යැයි අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරිය පැවසුවාය.

මෙහිදී අදහස් දැක්වූ අධ්‍යාපන නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය මධුර සෙනවිරත්න මහතා,

"ගුරු පුහුණුව පිළිබඳව අපි විශේෂ අවධානයක් මෙහිදී යොමු කරලා තියෙනවා. අපි ඉදිරිපත් කරලා තියෙන කුලුනු පහට ගුරු පුහුණුවත් ඇතුළත් වෙලා තියෙනවා. එළැඹෙන අගෝස්තු මාසයේ ගුරු පුහුණුව ආරම්භ කරන වැඩපිළිවෙළ මේ වන විටත් සකස් කරලා තියෙනවා. " යැයි පැවසීය.

මෙම ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ පිළිබඳ විශ්ව විද්‍යාල ආචාර්යවරුන්, ගුරු සංගම් සහ අධ්‍යාපන ප්‍රධානීන් දැනුවත් කිරීමේ හමු කිහිපයක්ම ඉදිරියේදී පැවැත්වීමට ද මේ වන විටත් කටයුතු යොදා තිබේ.

We are in need of developing regulatory frameworks that encourage innovation while ensuring efficacy, safety, data privacy, security, and other ethical considerations in digital technology.

The prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya participated in the roundtable discussion on Digital mental health with the global digital mental health network of eMHIC held today (22) at the Temples Trees.

Delivering the keynote address, the Prime Minister stated that the government is committed to integrating digital health solutions within existing mental health services, as a part of its larger agenda of digitization and emphasized the need of developing regulatory frameworks that encourage innovation while ensuring efficacy, safety, data privacy, security, and other ethical considerations concerning the Digital technology.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya also stressed the need for a coordinated, multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary response, supported by a well-trained mental health workforce and strengthened community-level engagement. The Prime Minister further highlighted the challenges in digital mental health including the parent-child gaps in understanding digital and psychological well-being followed under inclusion of digitalization in the implementation of new educational reforms.

The event brought together professionals, policymakers in the respective area, and tech experts, representatives from international organizations to explore innovative, technology-driven solutions for addressing mental health challenges in Sri Lanka.

The event was attended by the Senator Kathy Hay of Canada, Prof Anil Thapliyal, the executive Director of eMHIC (EEMICK) and representatives of the eMental Health International Collaborative and officials representing government, academia, professional bodies.

Dr. Nadisha Chandrasena, who received the 2025 WIPO “Global Award for Intellectual Property,” presented by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United Nations agency dedicated to intellectual property, innovation, and creativity met with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya on July 21.

Dr. Chandrasena’s “Smart Drainage System” concept, developed as a solution to open drainage systems clogged by plastic and polythene waste, was selected as a winner at the WIPO Awards Ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland. Her innovation stood out among 780 organizations from 95 countries.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended her congratulations to Dr. Chandrasena. Secretary to the Prime Minister Mr. Pradeep Saputhantri was also present at the occasion.

The 2025 Annual Esala Perahera of the Yudaganawa Raja Maha Viharaya in Buttala concluded its street possession yesterday (19).

The final Randoli Perahera commenced its street procession with the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. Following the enshrinement of the Sacred Relic Casket atop the ceremonial tusker of Wasana, Monaragala District Secretary Mr. Pasan Rathnayake presented the official declaration certifying the successful conduct of this year’s Yudaganawa Esala Perahera to the Chief Sanghanayake of Uva Wellassa and Chief Incumbent of Yudaganawa Raja Maha Viharaya, Venerable Galtemwatte Nandaratana Nayake Thero.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated:

Yudaganawa Raja Maha Viharaya is a place with archaeological and historical significance.

The annual Perahera festival plays a significant role in preserving the ancient glory and cultural heritage of Uva Wellassa and in creating awareness of its value among people around the world.

According to Historical chronicles, ancient kings of Mahanaga, Kavantissa, Dutugemunu, Saddhatissa, Parakramabahu the Great, Vijayabahu the Great, Nissankamalla, and Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe had contributed to the development of this sacred site.

The immense strength and blessings that arose from this sacred site during the past unification of the country are especially significant. The historic Stupa here is testimony to that legacy. This is why the Yudaganawa Annual Esala Perahera continues to draw wide attention.

Finally, I extend my gratitude to the Chief Sanghanayake of Uva Wellassa and Chief Incumbent of Yudaganawa Raja Maha Viharaya, Venerable Galtemwatte Nandaratana Nayake Thero, and the entire organizing committee for their dedication in holding this year’s Perahera with featuring the cultural events of Upcountry, Lowcountry, and Sabaragamuwa traditional dances and presentation of majestic elephants.

The event was graced by the presence of Maha Sangha led by the Chief Sanghanayake of the Ratnapura region under the Asgiri Vihara, Most Venerable Wathurakumbure Dhammarathana Nayake Thero, as well as Members of Parliament, government officials, and a large number of devotees and participants.

Steps will be taken to enhance the professionalism of teachers in the future.

The Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, stated that the goal is to limit the number of students in a classroom to 25–30, emphasizing that it is not possible to deliver quality education in classrooms with around 50 or 60 students.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while participating in a program held on July 19 at the Dakshinapaya Auditorium in Galle, organized to raise awareness among education authorities in the Southern Province regarding the new education reforms.

Addressing the fourth provincial awareness program on the new education reforms, the Prime Minister further stated:

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude for the cooperation you extend toward the education reforms. Implementing a new education reform was something we discussed and planned even before our government came into power.

In line with government policy, we held discussions with experts, gathered opinions from various sectors, and have formulated the relevant policies.

The new education reform is not only about updating the curriculum but also about enhancing teacher professionalism, reforming the educational administrative structure, and developing the necessary infrastructure to ensure all children have access to equal and quality education.

This is not something we are doing for personal gain, it is a responsibility we must fulfill with an understanding of the needs of the country.

There are people in society who initiate constructive dialogue about this with genuine intent, and there are also others who criticize it without proper understanding. Some even critique it for political gain. We know this reform process is a challenge and it is not easy. However, it cannot be ignored. The people gave us their mandate to correct these issues.

There’s a lot to be done in terms of reforming education. The curricula in teacher training colleges have not changed in 16 years. These must be revised. Teachers and education professionals must be provided with continuous training. From August onwards, steps will be taken to train the teacher trainers in order to deliver proper teacher training.

Addressing the event, the Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Mr. Nalin Hewage stated:

At present, steps are being taken to integrate vocational education institutions with the new education reform. This will create an opportunity for students to enter vocational education with dignity based on talent and skills, during their school years, instead of directing only underperforming students toward vocational paths.

The event was attended by Southern Province Governor Bandula Harischandra, Member of Parliament Nihal Galappaththi, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Mr. Nalaka Kaluwawa, Southern Province Chief Secretary Mr. Sumith Alahakoon, officials representing the Ministry of Education, the Department of Examinations, the National Institute of Education, the Southern Provincial Department of Education, Zonal Education Directors, and education authorities from the Southern Province.

The Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that despite the fact that societal tendencies give priority to the monetary value, economics and entrepreneurship should be disciplines rooted in humanity, and the concept of a “care economy” serves as a good example of this approach.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while participating in a program held today (18) at the Ministry of Education to inform officials about the development of modules for financial literacy and entrepreneurship, which are included as subjects under the new educational reforms.

Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, Senior Professor Harendra Dissabandara, shared his insights on the current state of financial literacy in Sri Lanka and the way forward and the Chairman of the Colombo Stock Exchange, Mr. Dimuthu Abeysekara, expressed his views on the financial literacy activities in the country.

Further addressing the event, Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated:

We clearly come to see that your support and bless have forwarded for the new education reforms we are trying to implement. As the Ministry of Education, it brings forward a great strength and these reforms are more than just curriculum changes.

What we need is a developed society, not just economically, but spiritually and ethically as well. Wealth is not just about money.

In that sense, the transformation we are trying to bring about through education is deeply significant.

The theft, corruption, and fraud we see in today’s society are not committed by people lacking subject knowledge but by those who know the subject very well. That is why it has been so hard to address. Therefore, we must learn financial literacy and entrepreneurship together with human values, to develop them as ethical disciplines. What we need are entrepreneurs who love the environment, society, and have compassion for one another.

The Prime Minister further emphasized the importance of considering what state society would fall into if women were only engaged in financially valuable work.

Addressing this event the Deputy Minister of Labour and Economic Development, Professor Anil Jayantha Fernando, added:

Incorporating financial literacy into school education is extremely important. Many people fall victim to pyramid-like financial scams due to a lack of proper understanding. Therefore, the public must have a strong grasp of financial literacy. It is often those with high financial literacy who carry out financial fraud. Along with subject knowledge, we need to empower society with values to manage this situation

The event was attended by the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Mr. Nalaka Kaluwawa; officials from the Ministry of Finance; the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka; the Colombo Stock Exchange; and other institutional representatives.
