Issues at the Puttalam Study Centre of the Open University brought to the attention of the Prime Minister.

During the briefing of the education authorities of the Puttalam District on the new education reforms and inspecting schools affected by the cyclone Ditwah, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya undertook an inspection visit of the Puttalam Study Centre of the Open University of Sri Lanka this afternoon (17).

Discussions were held on the construction of a permanent building to replace the existing building formerly used as an old pharmaceutical warehouse at the Puttalam Study Centre of the Open University, as well as on obtaining a suitable temporary building to carry out administrative and academic activities during the construction. Accordingly, on the instructions of the Prime Minister, the Mayor of Puttalam, Eng. Rinsad Ahamed, agreed to make arrangements to temporarily provide a building owned by the Municipal Council.

The occasion was attended by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathna, Members of Parliament representing the Puttalam District, education officials of the North Western Province, administrative officers and academics of the University, as well as a students.
