Ms. Helena McLeod, Deputy Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, at the Parliament of Sri Lanka on the 20th February.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to engage in constructive discussions on key areas of cooperation, particularly in advancing green economic development and sustainability initiatives in Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya welcomed Ms. McLeod and her delegation, expressing appreciation for GGGI’s continued support toward promoting sustainable growth in the country. The discussions focused several crucial topics, including the role of sustainable financing mechanisms in facilitating large-scale agricultural projects.
The conversation also covered sustainable transport solutions aimed at reducing environmental impact, along with progress on the "Clean Sri Lanka" project, which focuses on environmental conservation and waste management.
The meeting was attended by senior Sri Lankan government officials, including Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister; Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatta, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister; Ms. Kulani Karunarathne, Director (International Relations) of the Ministry of Environment, and Ms. Dulanji Herath, Assistant Director of the Ocean Affairs, Environment & Climate Change Division of the Ministry of Environment.
