New Education Reforms Aim to Develop a Future Generation Capable of Providing Leadership to Society - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya tells students visiting the Presidential Secretariat and the President’s House

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the primary objective of the Government’s new education reforms is to develop a future generation equipped with global knowledge, inner strength and the capacity to provide leadership to society.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while meeting a group of students from Eravur Rahmaniya Maha Vidyalaya, Batticaloa, during their educational visit to the Presidential Secretariat and the President’s House in Colombo on September 14.

Speaking with the students, the Prime Minister emphasised that education should not be limited to academic achievement, but should also equip young people with the knowledge, skills, confidence and values required to respond to a rapidly changing world and contribute meaningfully to society.

She further noted that the ongoing education reforms are intended to create an education system that prepares students for future challenges while enabling them to develop their individual capabilities and take an active role in the country’s social and economic development.

The educational visit was organised under the ’Vision’ programme, jointly implemented for schoolchildren by the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the Communication Department of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

As part of the programme, the students toured the Old Parliament Building located within the Presidential Secretariat premises, where they were introduced to the history of Sri Lanka’s Parliament and its significance in the country’s democratic governance.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage also briefed the students on the role of the President’s Fund and the assistance and services it provides to schoolchildren.

Saplings were presented to the school during the programme as a symbolic gesture to promote environmental awareness and encourage the importance of environmental conservation among students.

Officials from the Tri-Forces Security Coordination Unit, including its Director and Assistant Director, together with other officials, the Principal and teaching staff of Eravur Rahmaniya Maha Vidyalaya, and a large number of students participated in the programme.
