The inauguration ceremony of the renovated library at Kopai Teachers’ College, Jaffna, was held on January 15 under the patronage of the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Established in 1923 as the Government Teachers’ Training College, this institution marked its centenary in 2023.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated:
"Teachers play a crucial role in driving educational reforms. Education should build a strong and meaningful relationship between teachers and students. This transformation must be achieved through the collective efforts of principals, teachers, and education administrators. Our government places significant emphasis on teacher education. The teacher training process must be streamlined, and capacity must be enhanced. We also intend to introduce an Education Council to effectively implement these initiatives. Through this, we can improve the quality of the education sector and strengthen its management.
Additionally, we are working towards increasing the salaries of public sector employees in the upcoming budget, which will be welcome news for many. "During the event, the Prime Minister also left a note in the special guest book of Kopai Teachers’ College.
The ceremony was attended by Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nalaka Kaluwewa, and a delegation of officials from Kopai Teachers’ College.
