The Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that Provincial Council and local government laws should change on par with the time. He said this today (2023.09.14) while attending the progress review of the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government.

Indian CEOs to promote investments in Sri Lanka

Members of the Sri Lanka India Society comprising of Indian CEOs assured to promote further Indian investments as the time is ripe for expanding collaboration in several sectors. They stated this when they called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees today (September 13) to discuss ways and means of expanding bilateral economic ties including trade and investment.

Prime Minister discusses early implementation of Lower Malwathu Oya hydro-solar-irrigation project as a PPP

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena discussed the possibility of early resumption of the Lower Malwathuoya hydro-solar-electricity-irrigation project as a Public-Private-Partnership Project with foreign investments.

The Chinese investors who built the Yan Oya Dam called on the Prime Minister at the Temple Trees today (September 11) to discuss the Prime Minister’s proposal to install solar panels on Yan Oya resorvir as well as the proposed Malwathu Oya reservoir to generate 100 megawatt electricity and irrigate 22,000 hectares of land in Anuradhapura and Trincoamelee districts.

New British envoy expresses commitment to further enhance UK-Sri Lanka ties

British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees on September 7 to exchange views on bilateral ties and development cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

The High Commissioner expressed his firm commitment to further enhance bilateral ties and development cooperation between the two countries.

The Prime Minister urged the United Kingdom to explore possibility of initiating new investment projects with the participation of the private sector. Top Chinese fish exporter plans to invest in fisheries sector

A group of Chinese industrialists called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Parliament on September 6 to discuss possible investments in the fisheries sector.

The Prime Minister said there is vast potential for investments in fish processing and exports not only to China but also to foreign markets including Europe and North America.

Chairman of Fujian Province Aquatic Products Wholesale Industry Association Yushu Huang, who led the delegation said the members of the Association ranks Number 1 in fish production exports in China and they would like to set up a large fish processing factory at close vicinity to a coastal harbour for processing and export of fish products.

UN assures fullest cooperation to Sri Lanka

Newly appointed United Nations Resident Representative Marc-Andre’ Franche expressed appreciation over Sri Lanka’s economic recovery from an unprecedented crisis last two years and assured continuous support for the development process.

Motor bicycle expedition to promote cultural tourism from Lumbini to Sri Lanka via Buddha Gaya and Kusinara

Three organizations in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka will jointly organize a motor bicycle expedition from Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal, through the sacred places of Buddhist worship in India to Colombo in January 2024.
