The Prime Minister mentioned this while participating in ’Swarna Purawara’ National Award ceremony for appreciating high achievers of productivity among the Local Government Institutions, held at the BMICH on 25.07.2024, which was organized by the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

These awards were given based on the results of the evaluation conducted by the ’Performance Enhancement and Confirmation Tool’ with the aim of enhancing the performance of local government institutions.

The Maha Sangha including Ven. Watagedara Wimala Buddhi Thera, Rajakeeya Pandith, Anu Nanyaka of Dharmarakshitha chapter of Sri Lanka Amarapura Nikaya, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera, Chief Incumbent of Narahenpita Abhayaramaya, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Western Province, Ven. Demalussaya Medhankara Thera, M.A., Panditha, Ven. Borellale Athula Thera, and Ven. Elkaduwe Nagitha Thera, Chief Incumbent of Pushparamaya, Kirulapana, chanted pirith and blessed the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena lamented that violent attacks have been extended on schools and universities and there are even more victims of war, natural disasters and epidemics. “As a result especially millions of children and young people are out of schools and without opportunities,” he said at the UNESCO 75th anniversary held at the BMICH on July 16.

“UNESCO was founded in the wake of a world war. Millions had perished, millions had been forced to flee from death and despair, millions had lost their homes and left everything behind in search of a better future,” he said adding that UNESCO has a major in looking after the victimized children.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the Local Loans Development Fund has decided to add renewable energy to the local government sector and further he continued that such positive new thinking is required for the development. The Prime Minister expressed these opinions on 15.07.2024 at Temple Trees, at the occasion of awarding concessional loans for solar energy and development projects of Local Government Institutions implemented by the Local Loans Development Fund.
