Poppy flower is worn to the Prime Minister marking the Poppy Day celebrations.

The Vice Secretary of the Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association Ms. Manthri Coswatte, has pinned the poppy flower on Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister’s Office today (30) morning marking the Armed Forces Commemorative Poppy Day celebration organized annually by the Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association.

The income from the sale of poppy flowers will be allocated for the welfare of retired and disabled officers of the armed forces. The Poppy celebration is held to commemorate the military personnel who died in the First and Second World Wars as well as the internal war conflicts in Sri Lanka, and this celebration is also held in Sri Lanka on a Sunday around the 11th of November.

Colonel Ajith Siyambalapitiya, President of the Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association, requested all the people for the welfare of the retired and disabled military personnel.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Pradeep Saputhanthri, President of Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association Colonel Ajith Siambalapitiya, Vice President Major General Mahinda Mudalige, Treasurer Major Chilton de Silva, Member of Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association Major Sanjith Wijeratne, and Member of the Poppy Committee Amitha Rohana participated in this event.
