The special statement made by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena in the Parliament on 05.06.2024 congratulating Mr. Narendra Modi who became the Prime Minister of India for the third time

"Dear Deputy Speaker, I stand up today to congratulate the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Prime Minister Modi, on his victory for the third time through people’s vote and parliamentary democracy in India, where the strength of working together with all other sectors has been built over a long period of time as a friendly neighbour.

Mr. Narendra Modi has won today as the Prime Minister of India and formed the government for the third consecutive time sending a huge message to the world.

Moreover, the Prime Minister of India, the giant of parliamentary democracy, and the country that represents the largest population in the world today is of extreme significance.

Also, remembering the friendship and unity with the Asian countries as well as the active support with Sri Lanka, through the victory secured by Prime Minister Modi is very important and I wish India would obtain new achievements.

I wish success for achieving new goals of peace and development in economic and other fields. Therefore, as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, I hope that this victory will give strength to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to develop strong, long-term bilateral and mutual ties between Sri Lanka and India.

Now I will read my message of congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
