Hamilton Canal for public transport and tourism while preserving environmental importance...

In the past, Dutch rulers created the Hamilton Canal from the North Western Province to the Kelani River in the Western Province and used it for trade and many other transport purposes.

On the request of State Minister Ashoka Priyantha to repair and clean the Holland Canal, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has provided allocations of twenty million under the Ministry of Public Administration for the initiation.

The project includes public passenger transport, tourism industry, intermediate ferry, food restaurants, and leisure facilities.

The Provincial Council, local government institutions in areas related to the canal will be involved for the development of these projects.

At the invitation of State Minister Ashoka Priyantha, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena observed the Dutch Canal today (08.07.2024) at Nattandiya.

Governor of the North Western Province Nasir Ahmed, State Minister Arandika Fernando, MPs Chinthaka Mayadunna, Ali Shabri Rahim, Jagath Priyantha, Saman Priya Herath, Yadamini Gunawardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration Pradeep Yasaratne, and Puttalam District Secretary H.M. Herath participated in this event.
