Prime Minister’s greetings on Russian National Day

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena congratulated the Russian Ambassador Levan S. Dzhagaryan on the National Day of Russia and described Russia as a true friend, when the Ambassador called on him at the Temple Trees in Colombo today (June 12).

The Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister and stated that his country is fully committed to further expanding relationship and cooperation with Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister recalled his discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who visited Sri Lanka when he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2020 and impressed with the work of the Russian-Lankan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

The Prime Minister and the Ambassador held detailed discussions on the issue of retired members of Sri Lankan Armed forces being recruited by employment agencies. They also explored the ways of expanding cooperation between the two countries in many areas including trade, investment, education, tourism and energy.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake, Media Advisor Sugeeswara Senadhira and Russian Embassy Press Secretary German Fedorov were also present at this discussion.
