Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena addressed a large forum of Thai businessmen, industrialists and entrepreneurs urging them to invest in Sri Lanka. He pointed out that they should take advantage of tax rebates and access to many markets through Free Trade Agreements to sell their products when they invest in Sri Lanka.
Addressing a forum in which Federation of Thai Industries, Tourism Council of Thailand, BOI of Thailand, International Chamber of Commerce in Thailand and The Thai Chamber of Commerce took part at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Bangkok on May 31, he said Sri Lanka seeks mutual investment opportunities as Thailand is long standing friend with strong religious cultural and social bonds.
He pointed out that the government has given top priority for Sri Lanka to become an investment friendly country with high-level of doing business to attract sustainable foreign direct investment. Sri Lanka offers dynamic and multifold opportunities, and we warmly welcome the investment community of Thailand to take advantage of this potential, he said.
Director General of Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) Prasanjith Wijayatilake and Colombo Port City Economic Commission’s Revan Wickramasuriya virtually joined the Investment Forum and explained the investment opportunities and the incentives offered to investors.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka C.A.Chaminda Colonne welcomed the representatives from Thailand and explained the potential areas of investment. Several senior-level dignitaries from the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, the Thailand Board of Investment, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade Thailand, the Federation of Thai Industries, participated in the discussion.
Economic Advisor Tennakone Rusiripala pointed out that Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, during his meeting with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena had described Sri Lanka’s Colombo Port City has given many opportunities for Thailand and other countries to make lucrative investments.
Minister Vidura Wickremanayake, Minister of State Vijitha Berugoda, MP Yadamini Gunawardena, Sri Lanka Ambassador Chamida Kolonne, economic Advisor T Rusiripala Additional Secretary Deepa Liyanage and Advisor Sugeeswara Senadhira also took part in the discussions.
