The oil anointing ceremony for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was held on April 16 at the historic Rajamaha Viharaya in Kolonnawa, with the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

Following the chanting of the blessings of pirith, the oil anointing ritual was carried out at the auspicious time of 9:04 a.m., led by the Chief Incumbent of the temple, Venerable Kolonnawa Dhammika Thero.

Conveying the New Year wishes for the public at the event, the Prime Minister conveyed stated:

The National Ceremony to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was held on April 14, at the residence of Attorney-at-Law Mr. Saman Leelarathna in Pahala Bomiriya, Kaduwela, with the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

Commencing the New Year’s observances at 6:44 a.m. of auspicious time, the Prime Minister ceremonially planted a mango sapling, signifying the prosperity and the commencement of work for the new year.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that, as mentioned in the manifesto of the National People’s Power, which follows the envision of ’a prosperous country and a beautiful life’, the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) will be abolished in the future.

The International Montery Fund (IMF) delegation paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya today (07) at the Prime Minister’s Office to review the economic affairs of the country.
