Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena urged the UNICEF to increase assistance for women and children in rural and urban low income groups. He said this when a senior UNICEF delegation headed by Regional Director for South Asia George Laryea-Adjei called on him yesterday (August 24).

UNICEF Regional Director pointed out that UNICEF has number of projects for women and children and assured, “We are with you at these difficult times and we will expand our programmes in Sri Lanka”.

Prime Minister urges DARAZ CEO to expand Saubhagya Production Village programme through Daraz Connect

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena urged the Chief Executive Officer of Daraz Group, Bjarke Mikkelson to expand the Saubhagya Production Bureau and Saubhagya Production Villages through Daraz Connect, which is being carried out in partnership with the Divisional Secretariats.

PM distributes school equipment 35 nursery schools and sewing machines to self-employed women

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena participated in a programme of distribution under his Decentralized budgetary allocations
The allocations were used to distribute equipment for 35 nursery schools registered in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte division and sewing machines to raise the production capacity of people who are engaged in apparels related self employment.

"Don’t strike down Cooperatives" - Prime Minister tells the governors.

A discussion between livestock producers, organizations and representatives and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena was held on recently at the Prime Minister’s Office Colombo.

The issues discussed at the meeting included the measures that could be taken to increase the production of local livestock, reduce the problems faced by livestock producers and provide products at an affordable price to the people.

Pointing out the importance of a healthy human resource for a country, the Prime Minister highlighted that the price of eggs should be reduced so that the people can purchase eggs since more nutrients can be obtained from the consumption of eggs.

Prime Minister calls for Iranian investments in energy sector

Ambassador of Iran Hashem Ashjazadeh said there is immense potential for Iranian investments in energy sector in Sri Lanka. He stated this when Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena briefed him on the steps taken to restructure energy sector and to attract foreign investor participation.

New visa regulations will help more Korean investments in Sri Lanka – Korean Ambassador

Ambassador of Republic of Korea, Santhush Woonjin Jeong said the newly introduced relaxed visa regulations will help to attract more Korean investors to Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena urged the United Nations Development Programme to increase assistance to development of small and medium enterprises of rural community based organizations. He also urged support for community enterprises of the urban poor.
