Let us work together for a public-oriented government service without misusing public resources.

A country cannot be built without the people’s confidence in the law, public service, and political authority.

Building an efficient public service is our goal.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the need to work together for a public-oriented government service that avoids misusing public resources. The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with officials at the Prime Minister’s Office at Flower Road, Colombo, this morning (25th).

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya further commented:

"We must understand that the President was not elected in just another presidential election. This election took place after a struggle against the previous government, and the President was elected by the will of the majority. The people made their decision based on their experiences and observations from the past years. It is accurate to say that this year’s election was driven by the people rather than by political parties.

After assuming office, the President addressed the nation and emphasized that, for the development of a country, there must be trust between the people, the government, and the public service. People have lost that trust, and it is our duty to work to restore it. Many people feel isolated. A country cannot be built without the people’s confidence in the law, public service, and political authority. We must move the country forward by working to rebuild that trust. Our goal is to build an efficient public service."

The Prime Minister also stated that government employees should work independently to regain the peoples trust.

Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Pradeep Saputantri, added:

"As public servants, we have a special role to play. Some have thought of themselves as above the people. Now, we must realize that the people are above all of us. While everyone may hold personal political opinions, we all have a responsibility to implement the policies of the current government."

Mr. Saputantri stressed the need for greater dedication to serving the people.

On this occasion, Prime Minister’s Additional Secretaries Harsha Wijewardene, Mahinda Gunaratne, Senior Assistant Secretary D. Mashanka H. Liyanage, and a group of officials from the Prime Minister’s Office were present.
