Prime Minister discusses trade and education cooperation with Mexico

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said Sri Lankan youth have great interest now in learning foreign languages and requested Mexico to assist in setting up Spanish language departments in Sri Lankan universities.

He said Mexican investors should enter into new areas of investment in cinnamon and other spice production in order to add value to export products.

This was stated when the new Ambassador of Mexico Federico Salas called on him at the Prime Minister’s Office in Colombo on Friday (11).

Ambassador Salas said Sri Lanka has vast potential in expanding tourism sector to attract visitors from Latin America. He agreed to discuss further with University Grants Commission and the Education Ministry to establish closer cooperation in the field of education. He said Sri Lanka should use Mexico as a hub to enter into huge North American and Latin American markets.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake and Political Counsellor of Mexican Embassy, Guillermo Chavez Conejo also took part in the discussion.
