Through this project which the Malwathu Oya is the water source, and which provides irrigation to 22,000 hectares of agricultural land to produces rice and additional crops, it is expected to generate 50 MW of electricity through the installation of solar panels in the Malwatu Oya Reservoir, and 1.6 MW of electricity is to be generated through the Malwathu Oya Small Hydropower System.
