Cricket gives our younger generation a significant opportunity to establish friendship, discipline and fraternity... - Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena

The cricket team should be dedicated to the virtues and goals of high fraternity, and building the reputation of Sri Lanka...

The Prime Minister started this today (27.07.2024) at the occasion of the commencement of the construction of the International Stadium in Dodangoda, Kalutara.

The Prime Minister in this occasion commented that -

"During the reign of the current president, it has been possible to work very diligently on promoting cricket and other sports. The Cricket Association has been given the opportunity nationally to commence a program of development of the game of cricket. Kalutara district is getting a special opportunity in that regard today.

Dodangoda is a rapidly developing area. The support of government officials, departments and all others is required to complete the stadium. The President has consistently stated that. We enjoy watching cricket. We see many instances where cricket is decided on speed. Likewise, provide support from government ministries and other relevant corporations speedily.

There are ten thousand schools in Sri Lanka. There are about 3000 small primary schools. Many schools are in remote areas. The government is making a special intervention in around three thousand or four thousand schools.

The cricketers born not only from the city but also from the rural areas and proved their ability to achieve national and international fame. It is still being proved. The fact that our players have performed so well in the international arena and become special coaches even in foreign countries shows how much recognition they have.

Through our villages, we can attract a generation of children who are interested in cricket and can take them forward by training. This occasion is special in recent times as the main stadium built by the Cricket Association in this district. Our rural children join cricket through many challenges. The participation of rural children was discussed here. It is growing but not reducing. It is the blessings and interest shown by the Cricket Association and the government.

Cricket is not just a game we see. Cricket provides a significant opportunity to strengthen friendship, discipline and fraternity to our younger generation. That’s why we all hope that every child can participate in it or enjoy watching it.

Women’s cricket is growing as well. What a pride. The Sri Lanka women’s team won yesterday. And it has received great international recognition. As a team that builds the reputation of Sri Lanka, dedicate yourself to the virtues and goals of the high fraternity that cricket can bestow on all of us.
