South Asian countries fully endorse Sri Lanka’s proposal to set up a Climate Change University

Bhutan Minister of Education and Skills Development Jai Bir Rai called
on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees today (6)
and held detailed discussion on bilateral relations, potential for
investments and regional issues.

The Prime Minister referred to historic religious and cultural relations
between the two countries and said the efforts must be made to enhance
trade, investments and tourism.

Minister Jai Bir Rai thanked Sri Lanka for providing scholarships to
Bhutanese students to study medicine, engineers, information technology
and other courses of in premier universities. He also expressed willingness
to send Bhutanese teachers and educationists to the South Asian Teacher
Education Development Center set up in Sri lanka with assistance from
UNESCO.

The Prime Minister briefed the visiting Bhutanese Minister about
President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s proposal to set up a Climate Change
University in Sri Lanka and the Minister said it was a brilliant move and
it would benefit all the countries in South Asia and elsewhere.

The Prime Minister Gunawardena said similar views were expressed by
all the South Asian ministers who met him during their visit to Colombo
to attend the 75th anniversary celebrations of Sri Lanka’s independence.
He added that all those countries extended fullest support to setting up of
the Climate Change University.

Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake and Bhutanese
Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl also participated in the discussions.
